Day 1 - London
17 Nov 2010
The day started early after a very long flight from Brisbane and very little sleep. A ride on the underground to Kings Cross to drop my luggage at the hotel and it's still only 8:30am. The plan for today is to see the Tower of London and re-visit the British Museum. I've decided to stretch my legs after the long flight and start walking. The museum is not open yet and I continue towards the river. A stop at St Paul’s Cathedral for a few photos before crossing the River Thames at the Millennium Bridge and returning via Tower Bridge.
Next it's the Tower of London and a viewing of the crown jewels – an amazing number of jewels on each crown. The tour include a commentary by a local Beefeater – very entertaining and worth the effort. The Beefeaters (their nickname) all live on the grounds of the Tower and are all ex-Warrant Officers / Sargent Majors from the British Military.
Lunch in a traditional British Pub is a must as I enjoyed an ale with the locals. I intend to do this again on my return in January.
Next stop is the British Museum. Of great interest was the room dedicated to Central America, which included areas I'll be visiting in the next few weeks. It was dark when I left the museum so a quick snack and back to the hotel to get an early night.
